Details
Can You Hear the Rain (Boorong Boola Boola) is a layered canon that brings together voices, cultures and connection to Country. The piece weaves the Nyoongar words Boorong Boola Boola (rain falling) with a melody inspired in part by the Torres Strait Islander song Bella Mama. Lyrics and Arrangement by Donna Marwick-O’Brien and Brendan O’Brien
Built as a round, the canon allows each part to enter and overlap, creating a sense of rainfall building and flowing. As the voices interweave, students experience how individual lines come together to form something richer and more powerful—reflecting both community and the natural rhythms of the land.
The song invites students to listen, connect and be part of something bigger than themselves.
